The Two Neuros

Introducing Neuroplasticity and Neurogenesis

In this video I’m going to talk about two concepts, two simple words, that are central to your long-term mental and brain health. If you haven’t heard of them before, welcome to neuroplasticity and neurogenesis.

With the right actions by you, and especially the way you use your brain, it is possible to help the brain expand and grow, get stronger and healthier, and even repair itself.

It was thought for years, in fact up until just quite recently that the brain was considered a nonrenewable organ. In other words when it got to a certain size, a certain age, a certain level of development, it didn’t go any further, and in fact began to deteriorate. And that was just a normal part of aging.

Not so anymore, and this is key to understanding brain health. Neuroplasticity is the ability of the brain to change and rewire itself, and especially in response to stimuli like learning and thinking.

And neurogenesis is the ability of the brain to grow new cells and neurons. In other words, the incredibly exciting ability of the brain to not only improve and repair what it already has, but to make more of itself.
